The following exhibition showcases the skills and talents of our 2020-21 Graduating Students, as they leave our school and care, to embark on a bright future continuing on with their studies within the creative arts. ‍

Over the past years, these students have had the opportunity to explore different disciplines, examine their creative ideas and learn the skill sets that will prepare them for their futures. On display you will witness the culmination of this hard work across these different disciplines, ranging from 3D Design, Fashion and textile, through Creative Research and studies in Form and Meaning, to Illustration and Graphic Design.

Over their time on our courses, students have had the opportunity to engage with a journey of exploration into, not just the basic skills of art, but a journey of self discovery, as they examined their own identities, the social ideas that surround them and us, to understand and question the contexts of what they see, feel, and experience.

As we should all know, art is not just skill, nor is it simply a demonstration of talent, but the opportunity to post comment, share ideas and communicate with an audience. Art is a place for Expression, a chance to work through emotions, a place for questions.

《Women Leadership in Animal Protection》

作者:Kelly Guan

The theme of this work is the changing status of women in animal protection. I present the Kenya team of lioness, which was a animal protection belongs to IFAW, the team was consisted with all women numbers, who take up guns far away from home and build a protection wall for wild animals to protect them from poachers, which at the same time, brings respect to women in the community and shows that we can now do what was once considered as male job. Make women’s empowerment and gender equality is truly implemented. The whole works is composed of 5 small sculptures, which show an animal rescue story. The material of the sculptures is white no-bake clay and the sculptures will be placed on the rectangle pillar.

《Cathedral Glass》

作者:Pandy Wang

“Rousseau: Human born to be free and equal.” My inspiration comes from the church stained glass. Whenever I pass a building or church decorated with stained glass windows, I am always attracted to it. I love the gorgeous colours in stained glass. It’s a very eye-catching art form. So I also want to make a kind of work with coloured glass elements. I first looked for a lot of color fabrics with high saturation, but I found that the colour and texture were not beautiful enough. So I used colored PVC materials, combined with the use of hot air guns, and finally let my works show the effect of colored glass window.

《Escape》

作者:Johnny Yin

This work contains 6 illustrations. Ink pens are the main material. From the first scene, the protagonist in the picture has been desperately going up. In the end, when he finally walked out of the space, he found himself in a bowl, and was other people’s food.

《Wunderkammer》

作者:Ray Ji

This work is about Wunderkammer. The main inspiration comes from the plants and objects I picked up in campus. I want to emphasize the texture of these so-called useless things through three-dimensional embroidery. The reason why the final work is white is that I hope the audience can focus on the texture.

《Fear》

作者:Scarlett Xia

In my view, fear is an emotional experience in which an organism tries to escape or avoid a situation, but cannot. The main source of human fear is the unknown. Curious about what you don’t understand, but also afraid of feelings of loss of control and uncertainty. Fear spreads because people see innumerable incomprehensible phenomena in the world, and they are bound by the emotional world and cannot escape from it.

《Memory》

作者:Coco Wei

Through the combination of plants and machines, such objects appear in nonexistent Spaces and grow through the passage of time. CD-ROM is used as a carrier to record the memories of the past.

《The Flowers of Thorns》

作者:Helen Wu

This is a one-piece tight dress. It is called ‘the flowers of thorns’. It was made up of two garments originally – a shirt and an A-line skirt, that I attached together. I made a lace collar and added two decorative pleats in front of the shirt. The sleeves are puffed. I got some references from Batsheva 2021 Pre-Fall. I chose to use the back of white acetate cloth as my main fabric. For the A-line skirt, I combined mesh cloth with a printed fabric. My inspirations came from vines, and I want to express the visual effect of twining, binding and twisting.

《Childlike Innocence》

作者:Lucia Shen

This is my fashion design work. The theme of this work is childlike innocence. I am a girl full of childlike interest and girlish heart. And my favourite place is Disney. When everyone is urging you to grow up quickly, Disney is a dream place that can protect your childlike innocence. There’s always a place in all of us that’s beautiful, magical and whimsical. I want to use this dress to reflect my childlike heart that never passes away.

《Life Choice Management Office》

作者:Kelly Ding

I often think about the meaning of life, where do we go after death, what do we experience, and occasionally I hear about near-death experiences. To a better place, heaven. A pure and sacred place. The simplest structure embodies a kind of time tunnel, the road to heaven. Everyone will go to different places in three parts. Then continue to choose their own different next life.

《Silence》

作者:Amber Chen

This is a structural work, I made the shape of the DNA out of wood and stitched them together to make it look like a tree. During the epidemic, I learned something about life. Life is like a space, and human beings are the trees rooted in the space.
